The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale
The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale
perception is different from when we were little. When I was little I percieved everything to be huge.
Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experiences
When an artists develops or creates something, that is a true representation of their own personal experience, they put themselves, their heart, creativity into their piece.
The souvenir reduces the public the monumental and the three dimensional into the miniature, which can be enveloped by the body
Souvenirs are meant to be small. Souvenirs contain the same structure and shape only small scale.
Nostalgia cannot be sustained without laws
My older brother has a fear of heights due to a graduation from high school trip to cancun. He claims that a lucky penny that had his birth year had caused the plane to correct itself and not end up crashing. from now on he carries that penny on every flight he's been on.
To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy
This reminds me of how the English kings used to treat opponents in war. Some kings placed heads on pikes as a sign of fear to the crown
The place of origin must remain unavailable in order for desire to be generated
The object we posses means so much to us that over time, we lose where we originally obtained the object
Concepts and principles in 3D
Focal Point
I chose the element of focal point for this work. I was dead set on the idea of a cube within a cube from the beginning. This piece required a lot of time. at the in process critique I had a cube with the same pattern of holes on every side that was somewhat of a handheld size. If one were to look into any one of those holes on the cube they could see another cube held up by 6 supports. The idea was scraped. I re opened the box with an exact-o knife and took apart the cube held by supports. I then decided to leave the cube free flowing. I taped the box for a second only this time I chose to cover up every hole except for one. This concept gives the idea of focal point. Also every time the object is shaken, the focal point changes.
Pattern
For this piece I chose to convey pattern. The idea of cubes was still fresh in my head. I thought to myself, what if I could make a cube that has mass, form, flexibility, and can still hold shape until the viewer could actually compress the entire piece. To add more of a dramatic effect of this piece, I thought it would be interesting to leave the side open and exposed. For this piece, I started by using the very large size masking tape. I had made the outside shell of a diamond by measuring out the length of the diamond and then wrapping the tape of the tape on itself to strengthen the tape as well as create a straight long ruler like pattern that could be later to make equal sized squares. I cut 74 two inch squares. These little squares when put together made a hollow cube. I made nine hollow cubes and taped them together to create a grid. Each side of the diamond had a grid so that one could see through to the other side. once having the grid in place, I used the little masking tape to tape both grids to the edges of the diamond. the piece is finished. Now the piece can be compressed into itself and still hold shape.
Texture
For this work, I chose Texture. For this project, the idea of shapes stayed constant in my head. I decided that I wanted to make a sphere with masking tape, and shredded paper. I wanted to have a sphere that has exploded and shredded paper so I placed my shredded paper inside my tape ball only I forgot to cut it open. Either way the ball represents texture because the sphere is not the predictable smooth service.

A Few Of My Favorite Things
A Few Of My Favorite Things
1. Laptop- Being a graphic design major, I am always on my computer. It is a necessity in my life.
2. Gushers Wrapper- The wrapper stands for the amount of candy I consume on a daily basis. The Gushers can only temporarily disable my love for candy.
3. Lacrosse Ball- My life. This lacrosse ball was given to me after our game against Valdosta State University where I had five goals and two assists.
4. Roll of Athletic Tape- I always have athletic tape either in my house or in my lacrosse bag. I use it for anything from an ankle to my lacrosse stick.
5. Iphone- I always use my phone, Whether its emails and things for lacrosse or to text my friends and family.
6. Car Keys- My recently bought car that I love. This ring of keys means a lot to me because without a vehicle, I could not get anywhere. Also my scooter key is on that ring.
